Starting A Resource Center Or School Supplies Giveaway Program

Are you creative? Do you work well with people? Can you make a plan and follow through? Do you have an enthusiasm to help children? Do you see a great need for school supplies for children in your area?

If you answered yes to these questions you may be ready to start a Resource Center or a school supplies giveaway program. The Kids In Need Foundation wants to help you.

What is the difference between a Resource Center and a school supplies giveaway program?

A Resource Center is a retail store environment with shelves, fixtures, and carts where teachers can shop for free school supplies. A Resource Center involves occupying a building, employing both paid staff and volunteers, accounting for funds and inventory, and keeping regular, predetermined business hours.

A school supplies giveaway program, such as the Kids In Need Foundation's School Box program, is structured as a once or twice a year event at which kits of school supplies are given away to a predetermined number of children in designated schools, school districts, or service areas. No permanent building or personnel are required.
